If you have been meaning to look into government funding, the calendar is about to make the decision for you. Three government funding deadlines that 2026 puts in front of Ontario businesses land in the next three weeks: two close in early November, and one valuable intake opens October 19. Miss them and you wait months for the next window, or watch a competitor take the money instead. Everything below was checked against the official program pages on October 16, 2026: what closes, what opens, what stays open, and what you should do this week.
The deadlines that close in November
AMIC Round 8 closes November 5, 2026. This is the Ontario Regional Development Program’s Advanced Manufacturing and Innovation Competitiveness stream. It covers up to 15 percent of eligible project costs for advanced manufacturing projects in Ontario, for companies with at least three years of operations, ten or more employees, and a project of $500,000 or more. Decisions on Round 8 are targeted for February 3, 2027. If you miss it, Round 9 runs January 28 to April 27, 2027, but that is a five-month wait. If your project is at the $500,000 threshold and you have been sitting on the application, this is the week to move. Read the official AMIC program page, and see our full AMIC Round 8 guide for the eligibility details.
WES Ecosystem Fund proposals are due November 9, 2026 at 11:59 pm Pacific. The federal Women Entrepreneurship Strategy Ecosystem Fund is making up to $80 million in non-repayable funding available over four years, starting in 2027-28. Read the fine print carefully: this call funds Canadian incorporated not-for-profit organizations that deliver business supports to women entrepreneurs, not for-profit businesses applying directly. Lead applicants need at least three years of operation and a mandate or programming focused on women entrepreneurs. If you run a qualifying organization, the application guide asks for an evidence-based service gap and measurable outcomes, plus letters of support, so a last-minute submission will not cut it. The official WES Ecosystem Fund page has the guide and the submission portal. (Looking for the separate Women Entrepreneurship Loan Fund for women-led businesses? That is a different program; see our WES Loan Fund guide.)
Government funding deadlines 2026: what opens and what stays open
Food Safety and Growth Initiative Intake 2 opens October 19, 2026. This one runs to March 1, 2027, or until the $2 million pool is committed, whichever comes first, and it is first come, first served. It covers 50 percent of eligible project costs up to $75,000 per project for Ontario agri-food businesses: primary producers, processors, and service providers with fewer than 100 employees at the project location. One important change from the first intake: you get only one application per business this time. If a food safety upgrade has been on your wish list, being ready on day one of intake beats being ready in January. Details are on the official intake-2 page.
These programs are open now with no fixed deadline, which makes them easy to postpone and easy to lose to a competitor:
- FedDev Ontario’s Regional Tariff Response Initiative is accepting applications. It offers up to $3 million in non-repayable funding, including up to $2 million in liquidity support for demonstrated needs, to incorporated southern Ontario businesses with $1 million or more in annual revenue that have been materially hit by tariffs. Who can apply.
- BDC Pivot to Grow runs until March 31, 2028. Up to $5 million per stream across the liquidity, pivot, and equipment streams, with 0 percent interest for the first 12 months on the liquidity stream (per BDC’s August 25, 2026 news release). Program page.
- EDC’s Trade Impact Program is open with a $700 million direct-financing envelope for SME exporters, part of $5 billion in capacity, of which roughly $3 billion was deployed as of August 2026. Program details.
- Protect Ontario Financing Program is open, with term loans from $250,000 repayable over up to 72 months and up to 12 months of principal-free payments for tariff-distressed exporters. Program page.
- Ontario Together Trade Fund takes applications on a continuous basis: typically 10 to 20 percent of project costs to a maximum of $5 million. Program page.
- The federal Strategic Response Fund runs continuous, first-come intake with two streams, and Stream 1 is explicitly open to small and medium businesses pivoting to new markets. Eligibility and expression of interest.
Closed right now, and what to watch
Honesty first: two programs readers ask about are closed. The 2026 CanExport SMEs intake closed August 31, 2026, so any “apply now” advice you see elsewhere is stale; watch for the next intake announcement. The Ontario Automotive Modernization Program Round 7 is closed and the next intake date has not been announced. Treat the quiet months as preparation time: draft the project description, line up quotes from vendors, and get your financials in order so you can file on day one when the next intake opens.
What to do this week
First, put the three dates on the calendar: October 19 (Food Safety intake opens), November 5 (AMIC Round 8 closes), November 9 (WES Ecosystem Fund closes). Second, get application-ready. Most programs ask for two years of financial statements, proof your CRA accounts are in good standing, and a project budget with vendor quotes. Our loan-ready books checklist walks through exactly what reviewers look for. Third, if you are not sure which programs fit your business, run your details through our funding eligibility calculator; it takes a few minutes and points you at the programs worth your time. Program dates and amounts do change, so always confirm against the official page linked above before you apply.
